Possible Head Gasket Failure?

A simple sniff test will tell you if there is exhaust gas in the water. Most garages should have a tester. I have one as it is a necessity when you work on Rover K series lol.

I would do it for free if you can get it to me Dan, but I wouldn't drive it too far.

Bit of an update on this. I've spoken to Gary this morning and I'll be popping over to APT this Saturday morning to have a sniff test done. Buuuut, I thought that I should take the car out for a quick spin just to make sure that it would be able to make its way over there on its own (rather breakdown here than halfway there) And the car now seems to be running fine! No overheating, no header tank over flow! Even when I booted it a few times it didn't move at all. So could I have had a small airlock or a bit of gunk making its way round the engine?

Mega fingers crossed, will be a bonus if its all okay. Will treat it to a whole system flush at some point though.
