you done very well, but even in the work space you are allowed to use "minimal" force to defend yourself eg. keep him at arms length using a strong arm and asking him to stay back, no one is allowed to invade your personal space (like this guy clearly did).
but you really did the right thing, he should be suspended immedietly while investigations continue.
Or i would've said to him if he would like to have a chat outside when no one is around and then we would sort it out the old fashioned way. but that would be silly.
Near fight - at work
Standing your ground is all well and good until the other guys pulls out a blade, lump of metal etc. We've had several assaults at my place recently, the most recent ending up with someone getting over twenty stitches and a permanent grin. He wasn't a member of staff, but he could very easily have been one.
