Well...... now that I have lived with the golf for a week or so I have come to the conclusion that it is a cracking little car. I must admit it will be a struggle for me to rip it to bits for the track (might not yet

)

It is comfy to drive, pokey enough.... just

fits the family in quite easily and far more economical than the Gtr.

I really am becoming attatched to it.

From previous experience, it is the ease of living that can be the undoing of the car. Complacency around it's driver friendly nature, it's comfort, and it's low running costs can all lead one to believe that it's a bit boring. Truth be told, the mk3 eats the mk2 alive as an everyday proposition (in my opinion)

If and when you want to start livening things up, there are plenty of ways to do it without sacrificing the core elements that make the mk3 such a success.

Well done nik but why do you feel you have to strip it to track it? Just arrive and drive mate , fair enough for a dedicated track slag but to spoil you daily driver for the sake of a few trackdays needs some forward thinking and comitment

The car handled a track day well fully equipped, and for "do it all duties", it makes sense to keep it as is, I suppose it depends how hard it'll get used on track duties and how often.

I agree completely with what you are saying Jase but I believe my brother who actually bought the car has other ideas. He is looking to strip it to within an inch of it's life and then have it as a dedicated track slag but as I am insuring and taxing it etc I may have words with him and tell him that I don't want to be doing that. I may end up having to buy it from him. (imagine the response from my better half

).

Car sharing will always bring compromises Nik; if you two aren't well aligned in terms of your aspirations for the car, then it will get complicated very quickly.

All of this stuff mate, stuff you've done or thought about many times before. As long as you can put things back to standard quickly and easily, I don't think you've got too much to worry about anyway.

As and when you get some pennies together, you may want to get some stiffer anti roll bars fitted. A bit stiffer on the front and loads stiffer on the back seem to be the settings of choice.

Well the little MkIII passed its MOT with flying colours today.

(Well apart from an advisory about the rear number plate).

Still loving it
