Thanks Jon

I needed a change. A combination of financial reasons mean that a break will do me the World of good and I can do the right thing; i.e. spend money on a great but neglected property. Essentially, I'll be exploring a different way of enjoying cars whilst putting some much needed balance into the things I spend my wages on. Long overdue :)

I had been looking at all sorts of cars but none had been 'right'.

I've been thinking the same thing for a while now. I've been wanting a new bathroom for ages, But my car keeps robbing me of that
It may sound blatently obvious, But i guess tracktime is tracktime and i guess it really doesn't matter whether i get 150 down the back straight or a 100, The enjoyment in the twisty bits will still be the same. And if things (with a cheaper car) go wrong then it's only

Jon

That's exactly the thing mate. I bought an 8v three or four years ago for largely the same purpose. At that time, the idea was that a few of us could buy these sorts of cars so that we could get along to trackdays together, similar cars with similar speeds. Things didn't work out at that time, but this time may be a bit more successful. With Trev, Ben, myself and a few other well known BP regulars all talking 'Golfs', there is a chance that we can all have a laugh on the cheap, as we compare our cars and driving against one another.

The quickest car( in a straight line) that I've owned was only any fun exiting corners on a track. By the time I'd hit full boost in fourth, it was all done and then I'd have to slow the 1.5 tonne, expensive, heat soaked monster down. About six laps later, I'd have to come in whilst things cooled down and at the end of the day I'd have to assess big bills and very ordinary lap times for the power that the car was running. A four hundred odd BHP GTR was great for ego massage but cost me a small fortune to drive hard.

I know full well that the Golf will be one of the slowest cars that I've owned. I also know that it will be fun, durable and cheap. With some good mates owning similar things already, I'm assured of some giggles, and that and almost zero running costs are the most important car related factors for me. The money I don't spunk on something like an M3, GTR or whatever else can be spent on bathrooms, outbuildings, trees and decorating.

It's a no brainer for me.
