Re: Tyre size questions
theres actually not that much differance in wall height due to the 40 profiles being wider diameter.RX7 wrote:Hi Guys,
Was looking into replacing the Jap tyres on my Volks and had a chat with Ben about it. The tyres on them at the moment are:
Fronts
235 45 17
Rears
255 40 17

I've run the exact Goodyears in staggered sizes as you've referenced, with taller profile up front (245/40/18 ) and shorter out back (285/35/19). As long as you maintain a close-to-stock overall tire diameter ratio front-to-rear, you'll be okay.
Regarding the Goodyears themselves, I would vote against them in favor of the Toyos, easily. Mine were runflats, so that is a variable, but overall they were quite lousy compared to similarly "touted" tyres. Way too much quid for a tire who's performance can be equalled or surpassed for much cheaper, IMO.
Goodyear doesn't make much of anything I'd run on any of my cars anymore, save for respectable mud tyres like the Wrangler MTR.
