I dont think you would want to run this to be honest. As Scott has said before you would need mahoosive injectors to get the extra fuelling needed and would definitely need to take car eof the other things that petrol does such as lubricating. Methanol is essentially a degreaser

BioEthanol on the other hand seems perfect although still needing an extra 30% fuel.

If we could manufacture our own or find some place apart from Morrisons that do it - or deliver it - I would run it for certain all of the time.

I do believe that this Bio fuel will highlight the real purpose of tax on petrol when they load it onto bio fuels, it aint for green measures thats for sure.

It's less corrosive than Methanol, has a much higher MON rating and you can run your vehicle purely on ethanol although a 30% mix of Petrol would make it even less corrosive and better suited to a wider range of vehicles. Still have to do mapping but what fun that would be

So that works out at 18ltrs of petrol to 42ltrs of ethanol. If we could get ethanol at 40ppl that would be well worth a punt.

I'm looking to see if i can get some pure ethanol and prices. If anyone else wants to do the same that would be appreciated. Maybe we could get a group buy going

Francis - I would be up for finding a good supply of this.

The only option from searches so far are Morrissons E85 or race type fuels which work out too expensive to run everyday.

I'm getting similar results on searches. The only other way would be to make your own ethanol from sugar. I'm looking into that too, and oddly enough the process isn't as involved as when making biodiesel, but that's another subject i'm looking into for next year when i buy and old oil burner for everyday use.

There is a company in Liverpool that manufactures and distributes Ethanol, and it's duty free if you have a licence from Customs & Excise. Then you can legally obtain duty free ethanol as a small user. Otherwise without a licence the duty on 1ltr of Ethanol is

These guys will be coming out with a small self contained ethanol manufacturing home kit pretty soon. It'll probably make 50/60ltrs at a time like their biodiesel kit. They also tell you what needs to be done with the car prior to using ethanol. Very little by the looks of it.

I will be buying their home biodiesel kit in the new year unless i can figure out from plans i have how to make my own system.

Just wait, the government will get turned onto everyone switching then load up the tax on methanol to compensate for loss of petrol & diesel sales. Just like Duncan said, none of their duty is applied for reasons of ecology...

Look at how they started out subsidising LPG a few years ago then gradually let the price creep up.

The boating fraternity have recently been stopped from using red diesel. The government are blaming Brussels but they did not have to enforce the Euro ruling for at least 2 more years.

Also witness the step up in road side checks on diesel vehicles lately to check they don't have red in their tanks.

Same old story, use the middle class to pay for the governments scheme to over populate our country...

All i can say is....What the government don't know about they can't charge for....IMHO only.

It would be very difficult to enforce the rules and regulations against small time man in the shed, making his own Biodiesel or Ethanol quietly for personal vehicular use.

P.S. I've just had a reply from a company in Liverpool that manufactures and distributes Ethanol.

The stuff we can use for motorcar useage is TSDA 9 but it is not available to the general public and only on licence from HMC&E.
