I didn't pay a grand, I bought a 2nd hand ECU, and paid for mapping. I do understand you loose a few features, but I am more than happy with it at the moment.

As for added value, I suppose thats a pesonal thing, mine was I can have the ECU, if I wanted to sell the car, then i can get circa

Andy - is the Knock control on a classic only in closed loop? or does it extend further up the load/rev range?

So, Andy whats the thoughts on turbo choice, as I know your like myself and don't like to follow the crowd and spend loads on what deemed to be best....

Hey Dunc. Not sure what you mean, the CLKC is permanently in operation. Do you mean CL Fuelling which is just on idle and light cruise? Think I have misunderstood the question?

Logan - I was talking about a grand+ for the Simtek, I know you got a good deal on the GEMS and its good for your application, my only concern with that kit is how far the mapper is away from you. If you want to retain a decent MAF and Ecutek, Spence suggested fitting an 01 MAF which we might do. I still think ecutek is the clear fave for us. We know lots of mappers as well, and the ECU is already meant to have the licence (though it was also supposed to have better internals).

Turbo choice - Mike Blackmores AET goes well so may have a chat to him, interested to see how Gerry gets on with his FPG (though they are using 2.5's, so different application) and Andy F suggests a 20G (Have a soft spot for those, 380 on V-power/400 with a dash of OB). The 321 will do 400 without OB, but isn't cheap. Its a bit 'old school', but I reckon one of Andys 20Gs is favourite for now, should make for a rapid road car and give the TY754 box half a chance of survival. Got to find some injectors as well, 650s would do it.

Nice thread Andy. Good to see you can get your hands dirty, among your many attributes.

Still reckon Ace Rimmer suits :D

On teh ECU fornt, that fine, I do have options nearer home, in teh Jolly Green Monster, but I am not into chaging bits every month on the car, so Steve Simpson being far wawy is not a major issue for me, its a nice break to pop up there and stay away anyway :D Alos, not sure how long i will have the car anyway, so maybe 1 more map with some new bits and that will be it!

I spoke to Mike at Hethel and he was saying its a bespoke designed turbo, but not sure what spec it is, and as you say he is running a 2.5, so slightly different to a 2.0. I probably would go an 18g as aren't hey meant to give up to 380bhp/360 lbs ft and better spool than the 20g??

I think location is important and believe JGM can map GEMS anyhow, so no need to pay 3 tanks of fuel and a hotel for your next tweak

You can't part with your motor, it's schweet, what would you get that would be better?

18g spools better but makes less due to where you end up on the compressor map. I think 16g/18g/20g very roughly are 340/360/380 on V power alone. Probably lose a couple of 100 rpm in spool at each step. (Talk about guesstimates!). A little bit of Viscon in the tank works wonders if more is required.

The 20g on Gerrys 2.5 was awesome, makes me wonder about EJ257s and drop in forged pistons, must give that a try sometime. In combination with his PPG its the quickest scoob I've sat in on a track. (Paul never had his working when I was over at his and Andy is a bit far away!)
