That does make a difference. This can only have an extra 512MB = 1GB total.
Memory, that I *think* will do the job - http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/45307
Sony no longer list upgrade memory for this model

Fitting instructions - http://support.vaio.eu/tutorials/memory ... =-1&m=1818

So,

a, is ok. Things will take a little longer compared to a faster processor, but if it is not at 100% for long periods of time then you are not overworking it.

b, If your 448MB is with all your normal apps running, and you notice it slow at this - then Memory is not the problem either. A bit of extra memory is no bad idea, especially when you start opening lots of files/pictures as this is when it will creep up.

c, looks fine and dandy

If hardware wise is ok, which it appears to be, then you need to look at software. Are you up to date with:
1, virus software - AVG free is better than most pay for antivirus if not
2, spyware - Windows defender is my choice for Windows XP
3, windows updates - windowsupdate.microsoft.com

If these 3 are ok then it is prob time for a windows reinstall TBH not much point battling any more with it. I assume it appears much slower than when you first got it with fresh windows?

The HD's are normally normal fitting on Sony's, but I can not confirm from the tech specs available so you will need someone to look at the physical disk to confrim, so you should be able to fit and 2.5" IDE Notebook disk:

How hard these are ti fit??? And you will then need to reinstall windows.

Personally I would just got one of these:

Small enough to fit into your shirt pocket, and just one wire - USB to Laptop. You can then pulg this into ANY machine for easy transport of files.
