Re: Project GTR (zed replacement)
Had the GTR at Snett last Friday. Mega day as very empty so very little traffic to contend with so was going for laptimes. Best was a 2:08.69 which I was little disappointed with but actually is a good improvement on my times there last year. I wonder if the 2:08.00 I saw with the performance box wasn't wholly accurate.
I also learnt that the Michelin Pilot Sport Cups can be run right down beyond the wear bars and still perform, my fronts were slick by the end but the data showed max lat Gs were still right up there. This is a vast improvement over the 888s which would have been like castors long before, and the even wear shows that the MPSCs are much more able to deal with the weight and power of the GTR than the 888s. So I'm going to stick with them and buy another set.
Front pads were down by the end and this was showing up in reduced braking power - noticeable by me and also the data. The rears I've also noticed are getting very dusty and the pads look like they've got very hot so I've ordered some ducting to put on.
I was lucky enough to bump into Malc who was there coaching so was great to catch up and his kind analysis of my data afterwards really interesting to read.
The gaitor on the gearlever has split by the end of the day, with some oil seeping down the inside of the trans tunnel and at least one if not both front bearings have cried time too.
So next post is a list of the jobs about to be undertaken....

Re: Project GTR (zed replacement)
So, onto the job list. Quite an expensive month GTR wise.
I've been considering an updated gearbox for a while as it is the remaining weak link at the power level I'm running so is always in the back of my mind. An uprated box would give me reliability, but also allow me to run full boost (not that I probably will) and also launch the car, again, probably unlikely to be a regular occurance but nice to know I can. It'll also deal with the bigger power that Ethanol will bring should I finally do that mod.
I was very tempted by an OS Giken sequential box but eventually decided against it due to the regular refreshes required amongst other things.
I settled on the OSG uprated gear kit and was going to have my box rebuilt with 1-5 and the uprated Holinger sized input shaft. This was going to be pretty expensive at roughly £5k so I was delighted when Ron at RK (who was going to supply and build it) rang to say a customer was breaking a car that he'd built one new for just 700 miles ago. I bought it and made a useful saving.
The OSG kit has stronger gears but also different ratios, a much longer first and much more closely stacked 2-5 so I'm hoping this will be better on track as, more so at snett than Silverstone, some corner light the gtr up in 2nd but leave it off boost in 3rd.
I also bought a triple plate OSG clutch to go with it as I was going to have to buy new bits for my existing clutch to fit the bigger input shaft so I thought I'd just get a stronger clutch and sell my twin plate.
Other less exiting jobs are:
Front Wheel Bearings
Fit rear brake ducting
Oil & Filter Change
Mod the airfilter as it's rubbing through on the wing
New brake pads
New Tyres
I'm feeling poor but excited about the new box

Already on the corner bud, hoping the rain holds off....
the one thing on that list that, to coin your phrase, really "grips my shit" is that a set of Porterfield pads f/r is over £500, and that's mates rates from whifbitz. It always get me when I used to be able to buy fornt pads for my disco off roader for £15....

Absolutely no reason for this post other than it clicks me up to 1000 posts
Mods, do I get an award?

Nice whorage Monster
Nothing to add re: gearbox but I'm sure you've chosen your mods very carefully. Great to see continued investment in such an iconic car
VIVA LE R32!!
