Pete, Why dont you book yourself one of the novice track evenings at say snetterton with the evo. A wednesday evening here is only £69.

now that does look very appealing and good value. the noise limits seem very low though. 92db drive by in the evo

damn if the evo was quieter I would book the may evening as a birthday treat.

Yes 92db might be a tad tight? Maybe the mr2 would be more suited?
My advice would be make sure the car has fresh oil, Get your brake fluid changed, Check your tyres etc...
Then build yourself up slowly out on track. Find your braking points, Turn ins, Apexes etc. Try to find yourself some space, I can`t say about novice days (they weren`t around when i had my first trackday) But without question try to bury any red mist that might descend! If you do have any petrol in your blood you will be back for more with a head full of ideas on how you can go better..........And so begins the slippery slope!

the mr2 would be the more suitable. but I sorned it last week and cancelled the insurance to insure the oldman mobile. typical.
not a sodding thing on ebay that will go on the evo exhaust wise. maybe I should go the diy route?
the noise limit is 102 still or 92 driveby. really have no clue how loud mine is but its too loud for sure.

92db is pretty generous in the real world Pete, so unless you're running a Kakimoto Motherfucker Special tm you will probably be fine.
All good advice above. Whatever you take on track needs to be fundamentally roadworthy and reliable, so I would say that you'd be better off with something you are familiar with and trust for a taster session or three first, then decide what you want to do after that. No sense in taking a complete punt on an untested car as you stand a chance of cocking your night up as well as everyone elses if you drop oil everywhere.

Good words there Stuart. Good point about the car too. The evo I have had 7 years and know it well. On the other hand the mr2 for example has sprung enough leaks already and don't trust it as such. Always good wise words from the genie.

You need to be able to concentrate 110% of your attention on the circuit and other drivers, as opposed to watching the gauges and listening to every little squeak and rattle thinking 'what's that?'

That was how I drove the mr2. 'Oh no that's a new noise'. That said with a bit of work it would be a hoot to drive it in anger properly. Maybe she will let me keep it?
I will definately book the may evening, but have to do the exhaust first. Due a change especially as it's only held on with 1 rubber
