I'd put money on the fact that it is louder than the REX with the baffle in, let alone without

Ok, my first proper drive.
The alignment is out
The gearbox/diff is a bit noisy but there is no telling whether that is normal noisy or trouble noisy; Dom did say it had been like that for years and that it had caused Whifbitz no alarm
Brakes are OK but I can see what you guys meant about being sub-standard for track stuff
Suspension rides really well on the big hoops

That noises win it for me; they are exactly what I had been looking for for all of these years. I would say that the Impreza (running no boost to speak of and not exposed to big revs) has the acoustic edge over the GTR that I owned.
I have no idea at all about how this thing will work out in the long run but so far, I have been smiling from ear to ear as this most uncouth of cars burbles around
