Harvey's Hybrid FMIC is a great piece of kit for the money. Considering the track intention Jon it would be a good plan and much better.

It does have knock on costs though as you would need an induction kit and probably a new dump valve.

STI tmic would be good enough.

If you're heading towards the track, in a classic, then I'd disagree with Dunc. At 1.4bar, full-bore usage would see my charge temps climb rapidly towards 50degC (at which point I would back off) in an STi6 with standard intercooler. It simply cannot cope with a bit more boost than standard. Similarly, through traffic you'd easily see 50degC.

You do need an induction kit but your std dumpvalve will fit using a flange adaptor from Harvey. Apex performance are a different operation, relative newcomers to the scoob scene, but good too - I have their coilovers. I'm not sure what they stock, but it isn't the Hybrid.

Andy, I should have said before that i have a newage not a classic and the only reason i wanted a STI IC was that it seems to have fairly good results for relatively little money. I really don't want to go back to a VTA dump valve as i hate the noise and attention they attract.

People do, if running a TD05. General advice if running an IHI turbo (VF28 in my case) seems to be don't remove the dumpvalve if you want the blades to last.

Jon - you don't need a VTA, but you do hear the standard one a little more when you've got a cone filter instead of the airbox.
But, if the STi TMIC fits straight on then it could be worth a punt. Do get a charge temperature gauge though (and I presume you've already got a knocklink or similar).

Thanks for all the advice guys (really useful)
I've managed to source a fairly cheap STI topmount which i hope will suffice for now. Considering my current suspension set up and it's dismal performance at Snett last time out, I've decided to invest more on handling than on power (for now  ). If only my pockets were deeper :(

Good choice. My first 2 Imprezas had only the handling and brakes modified. Gives you much greater track ability than any amount of engine work on its own. Only thing I spent on the engine on those 2 was a decat, oil gauges, boost gauge and detalarm. The thing I should also have had is a charge temp gauge.

Andy

ps. did I mention charge temp gauge? Get one!

Yeah i have to agree with you Andy, It's great fun blasting past cars on the straights but when they are stuck up your chuff on the twisty bits, it all seems a bit pointless. And after i replace my gearbox, which decided to internally combust today :x I will be on the hunt for some tasty coilovers and arbs
ps
Yes you did mention the charge temp guage.... and yes i will.
