A single pipe wouldn't be such a problem as the flow would tend to push the air before it. Even so, it would still be better to flow bottom to top as it's esier to push air up, than down.

Seeing that picture makes me wonder if the cooler is actualy seeing any air pass through it?? As its at such an angle to the flow of air and appears have no air outlet from it thus it will be creating a postive air pressure and there won't be any airflow. This can be solved with an entry and exit duct to the wheel well if there is nowhere else to put the cooler.

The original position for the cooler was on top of the intercooler infront of the rad, it has been moved to improve the airflow to the rad. Alan is currently making a new front bumper which will contain ducting to direct air to the oil cooler and the current bumper is also being modified for the same reason. There is already a hole cut in the wheel arch liner behind the oil cooler :)

Important part is to duct behind the oil cooler to remove air from behind it to create a draw through the cooler core, otherwise it will just experience a build up of positive pressure in front of it and reduce its effectiveness.

Can you vent out the side of the bumper with a NACA type extract duct?

Just been outside to have a look and yes we should be able to vent it through the side of the bumper. Cheers for the idea :grin:

Nismo only duct from the front on their R33's when used for racing. Both would be ideal, but some (front or rear) is better than none.
