Took the heads off the car today to be greated by these. Is this normal for pistons to look like this :)

looks like its been burning a bit of oil but them swirls are normal,is the way the air and fuel mix enters the cylinder

Cheers gents :) I had hoped the oracle of knowledge (Gary) would be around :grin: Cheers Gary.

We plan to clean them up and fit new piston rings is there anything that we should look for or are we better off fitting new pistons.

i was going to say, the cylinders in the mini were like that and they were okay :)

fitting oversize pistons will always be best ,but may be get a engine company to measure bores to make sure they dont gone oval

if they ok then a hone of bores and replacement rings

Once we get them out i'll check the bores for roundness. That's something i can do :grin:
If all is ok we'll go from there, we have 3 options to look at but at the moment it may come down to cost. Due to work situation.
