Good job you found those instructions before trying a stud remover, as you can see.
If the stud's broken, OK but if it's 'stripped' are you sure? The stud thread is a lot tougher than the nut material so it may be it just needs cleaning the nut material out of the threads.
Whatever the cause, if it has stripped, replace the nut as well.
