Matter of interest, I thought this was happening to me a few weeks ago ... car down the road's alarm was set off - saw the window had been put through - then about 30 mins later my alarm went off ... went out with the keys but couldn't shut it down ... for some reason I was expecting to get jumped!.
had a look around and nothing was looking shady - actually turned out i'd left the interior light on and the battery went flat triggering the alarm and wiping the shutdown method in the process - had to remove the battery !!.

That sucks.... guess its the logical progression of setting the alarm off again and again till the owner gets pissed off and turns it off, then nick it.
I think ill keep mine looking like its not worth nicking. :-D
