Time Attack Club Challenge Rule Discussion

Post by duncan »

Now that the official regs are out and have been amended I thought it would be good to pool ideas on what we interpret them as:

some of the ones that jump out at me:

1) passenger seats HAVE to be fitted and these must be able to take a 4 point FIA harness

(I can't for the life of me understand why we need a 4 point harness for an empty seat)

if it cant take a 4 point harness - a replacement FIA approved seat / FIA approved rails must be fitted

2) 4 point harness - must be fitted to driver and passenger seat not using existing seat mount bolts so these must be drilled into the floor and load spread with welded 5 inch plates.

3) Bonnet and Boot mechanisms MUST be disabled and external catches fitted. Okay - not so difficult.

4) Non Ally wheel nuts

Feel free to add any information, opinions in here. Hopefully Rob Barnes will be along soon to help :)

Are 3 point harnesses had allowed then. I'm not sure why they are saying that bonnet and boots must have external catches. No wait i've just thought why for the bonnet

I think as the series has/is growing the safety standards that they are laying down are also growing. Not sure about the passenger seat ruling as you can't take passengers.

Mmmmmmmmmm

Bizarre. No idea why that would be a stipulation

if it cant take a 4 point harness - a replacement FIA approved seat / FIA approved rails must be fitted

2) 4 point harness - must be fitted to driver and passenger seat not using existing seat mount bolts so these must be drilled into the floor and load spread with welded 5 inch plates.

Another one that doesn't make any sense. Why not use the existing holes with support plates?

3) Bonnet and Boot mechanisms MUST be disabled and external catches fitted. Okay - not so difficult.

Bonnet, fair enough the boot is a bit OTT in my opinion

4) Non Ally wheel nuts

Fair enough. I don't like them either

Just thinking its not going to be the easiest of jobs on a road trimmed car carpet, underseal and such like. A 5" plate is possibly going to mean the position of the eye bolt could be less effective due to floor pan design, brake lines or prop..

Have fired an email to the scrutineer.

I am wondering whether I can just wedge open the interior pull handles to ensure the boot and bonnet dont lock.

no bonnet pins at the moment - and normal pull release inside.
