Think that being Aluminium it would put a stop to your fuel experimentation. Plastic, of some description, would be a more suitable material (as the tank's plastic) and I'd seriously go for that. It may be worth looking into it. You'd presumably need half the tank volume as that's where the fuel surge starts. You could work out the tank volume loss by weight of material. Food for thought and a lot cheaper & easier than swirl pots.

Is it not possible to cut a plastic tank open, pop whatever device you want in there and then plastic weld it afterwards?

No need as, on a Scooby tank, there's a man-hole where the pump sits. :D

The Scooby tank filler has a monstrous 'U' bend so it woud be very difficult to actually pour any solids into it. The now 'ferret hole' is the easy way.

Actually, this thread has reawakened my thoughts on an anti-surge device and I now think I have a simple, sensible, economical solution. :o

Having a wagon causes an additional headache to the in-boot swirl pot as I don't have a boot. Externally mounted fuel pots need to have a liquid proof bulkhead isolating it from the passenger compartment in case of leaks or accident damage.

So an in-tank device, that works, will eliminate the need for external pots and all the paraphernalia tat goes with them, i.e. hoses, pumps, filters, etc.

Another job for the winter break :D

We have a fuel surge problem with our car. Once you get to a 1/4 of a tank the car suffers from fuel starvation on hard or fast left hand bends. This a common problem and is caused when you fit an aftermarket fuel tank as the original is baffled.
Our plan to solve this if to fit a fuel tank from a latter model as these have an internal fuel pump where as ours has an external fuel pump.

The Scooby has an internal pump but the tank is like a saddle bag where it crosses the propshaft. The pump sits, to one side, behind the driver so, in some cases, with little under a half tank full, on right hand bends we get fuel surge and resultant det.

Swirl pot, foam or baffle is the only way to go, or maybe a conical based tank. :)
