I'd want to know what the likes of Top Secret could get out of it first.

480bhp in a fairly heavy lump is hardly gonna set the world on fire !!!

Although in fairness its cheaper than I expected it to be in the end. I figured that they were 54k 10 years ago so they would most likely be 65-70k now and be smack in the middle of Porsche territory and hence need 550bhp+ to compete.

Im still hoping to get one end of next year, but I will need some major convincing over a 2002 VS2 with 750bhp which I expect will be around 25-30k by then.

Bladerider, read EVo this month, then you may just change your tune, the new GTR has whooped the 911 turbo on the ring, not by just a couple of senonds, but a country mile, so

The upside to having the porker is that the value won't drop like a boulder unlike Jap metal, but the embarrasment of being overtaken by a ricerocket would soon wipe the smug smile off a pork drivers face!!!
Buggers cancelled my op just a couple of days before it was due. Inconsiderate barstewards!!

No - It would take far more than a development car doing a couple of laps around a forest to make me change my tune.

The thing that decides it for me is quality and performance vs cost and drawbacks.

Porsche tend to be amazingly well made
They tend to handle quite well
They tend to have more performance than their figures suggest
They ooze quality in a way a japanese car never will
They have a perceived image and value far greater than the sum of their parts.

The GTR is sheap in comparison for what you get
It possibly has more performance on paper, and if you believe the report about the ring then it does the business on track (albeit against a 10year old car in effect)
It wont handle as well as the Porsche, but it will still handle well
It has almost zero quality in comparison
It will have a perceived image depending on the age of the person talking to you and that image will almost always be based on fantasy

All of the above points are not meant to be specifically pro Porsche or against the GTR. Its the things that would sway my personal purchasing decision. I said it would need 550+ to compete because it would need to do exactly what you say it has done - ie wipe the floor with a Porsche Turbo - in order to be able to compete with it on an even footing overall as such much else of the car package is lacking quality or finesse.

I found my 34 pretty dull pretty quick with less than 400bhp. It was only the cartoon looks, the fact it was my dream car and all the points and good vibes it got that made up for the lack of gobstopping performance. When it got that with 600bhp it became the complete package for me at the time. My concern now is that only 4 years later my standards and expectations have gone up a lot and as such my 600bhp R34 is probably not enoughany more and I would need something newer and nicer like the "R35" with the same power and performance as I had, or an R34 with significantly more performance to make up for the slightly dated package.

That said I am seriously considering buying Syds old black 34 in the new year if we get some more of this work done.

Newera and a bunch of others not selling the Jap spec GTRs now.

There was an article in Auto Express about it. Apparently Nissan were threatening to sue anyone who sells it !!!!! Notice it has dropped off the website.

Sounds a bit like the Evo 10 which is also being restricted.

Believe the only loophole now is if you import it yourself.

C'mon..someone do it...I wanna see one or have a passenger lap in one !!!!!!!!!!!
