tyer pressures

Post by dangerous »

hi all
just one question..
do you put more pressures in your tyres for trackdays or let some out :?:

i am a bit lost because i have been told to lower pressure for more grip.
but to raise them for handling.

all the best dangerous

i took a bit out of mine last time, i thought putting pressure in gave less grip more speed and lowering them was more grip and a lower pressure gets heat into the tyre quicker.....i think.

I would say that the advice for a Westfield could be different to that of a 1500kg car. What sort of tyres are your using Dangerous? A friend of mine used ACB10's and found the optimum pressure was around 28psi until they were hot, he then tested them again and adjusted them to 30psi. I will add that he does crash a lot though

i dont think i can lower them much more, they are 20psi all round. Been told that i can go as low as 16 - 17 psi :?: but i think that is comeing of the rim presser, and i dont whant that.

i am guessing the theory is with tyre movement, heat is gnerated quicker to warm the tyre, but a side effect is the expansion of the air inside thus increasing tyre pressure?

this can cause the tyre to give a shape that will greatly reduce the contact patch.

any thoughts as to the "profile" of the tyre?

i.e. the lower the profile the less need to drop pressures due to less tyre movement?

Don't worry about rolling off the rim we run one wheel at 10psi on the Super. How heavy is the Westfield?
