Recently my ISP Toucan was taken over by Pipex (Tiscali) and if you google Pipex you'll see nothing posative about them, people complaining about months of direct debits being taken after theyd moved, debt collection agencies, all sorts of bollocks, infact i moved to toucan to get away from the chaos that was Pipex. So i thought id document my fun and games with them, see if theyre as bad as "they" say they are.

27/02/09

Found pipex customer care number 0871 663 3300, so i have to pay 10p a minute to get away from them... nice.

10:05 - Phoned pipex care on 020 33028403 (Which is the normal rate equivilant number see SAYNOTO0870.COM ).

All lines busy, your important to us! PLease have some dismal muzak!

10:08 Get through to a bloke called Michelle, (probably not his real name, as it sounds from his accent like im deep in the heart of india by now). Go through all my details and tell him id like my MAC Code, oh right, youll have to phone cancellations on 0871 222 6367, select option 1. thanks bye. 10:10.

So 5 minutes down, would have earnt Pipex 50p and im no closer.

10:13 Phone cancelations on 0871 222 6367

Option 1: for cancelations

Please type in your phone number... done.
Please type in your phone number... done.
Please type in your phone number... done + a #.

Ahh finally "all our operators are busy at the moment... supprise" on hold.

10:18 "Hi im Martyn" great, give me a mac code.
"sorry im going to have to reboot hang on 2 secs"
WTF!
ok, usual details, but weirdly didnt ask for my password.
"Can I ask you why your moving away from pipex?" No
"Pardon?" I said no, you may not ask.
"err.. right"
"Your paying way too much i can see, would you like me to get you a better deal" No, just a MAC code
"err.. right"
"I can..." No, just the MAC code
"I..." No, just the MAC code.
"err ok, i have to read you a script, bla blah blah 5 days, blah dont cancel your dd, blah etc...".
Fine.
"Please hold while i update your account". 10:22
10:26 after 4 minutes on hold.
"Ok done, we'll send you a code, bye".

WTF? Why put me on hold to update my account, theres another 40p they shouldnt have had.

So there we go, day 1 over, and theyve made

I'm with Sky :wack:

You can buy anything, upgrade to whatever but try looking to see how to cancel, it's nowhere to be found.

BT are crap service for phones, thir call centres are in India, as are NUs.

British Gas Service should be reported to Trading Standards for mis-use of the word Service.

And so it goes on..and on....and on. ](*,)

Well, that's not strictly true Gerry. I'm not being asked to commute to Asia just yet :) In a blatant plug for the business, Aviva will have seven Centres of Excellence in the UK with the one at Norwich being rolled as it's first in 2010. Certain roles may still be dealt with offshore but the people that the clients will deal with will be UK based.

Sorry to hear about the Pipex stuff Maff. I'm not really surprised though as there are some absolute horror stories about this sort of thing; far too common that firms strip out service to achieve a lower price. Poor form.

Did you hear about Ryanair supposedly thinking of putting coin slots on their aircraft toilets?

I'm guessing there'll be a few stampedes to get off their flights, once they land :o
