From tower PC to laptop....

Post by DASHughes »

Hi :D

I have about 30GB of music on my tower pc, but i want to bring it across to my laptop.
I have a wireless LAN that they are all part of.
How do i do it? :? is it best to set-up a shared folder? Or just run Ethernet from PC to Laptop(if poss? :?)

Im a total novice when it comes to these kind of things...

Any help will be appreciated.

share the folder your mp3's reside in

open your \\desktop\mp3 share on the laptop
drag and drop

or you could setup an ftp server/client and transfer files that way, which is much quicker :)

turn on the Guest account on the desktop machine too, if needed. use google for help because im going to bed now :)

I have done this recently - If the machines see each other on the net work - which i'm assuming they will, and if you have the lastest G router kit - it is quicker to copy by simply setting up a share on both machines and copying. I found it quicker via wireless than via cable as my wireless is 125 and cable 100.

You will probably need to shutdown your firewall programs if you cant see the other machine.

I always have to shutdown zonealarm on mine and mcaffe on my dads to transfer.

If you are doing this then make sure you take the Internet connection lead out !!!!!
