In the last 3 months I've set up 3 different networks. Twice Netgear and once with Linksys.
I bought a new Netgear yesterday - read the manual - would it work !!!! ... no siree, so took it back and bought the exact samething by made by Linksys - worked in about 5 minutes.
My sisters boyfriend also bought a Netgear - it took about 4 hours for it to "decide" to work.
So that is 2 netgears that have caused untold grief ... so the moral of this story - buy Linksys - they actually work.
I do not recommend Netgear !!!!

On the basis that you have dial up ADSL - you require a Linksys ADSL Modem.
You simply attach it and as part of the setup enter the username and password that you use to connect presently.
Heypresto one dial on demand router. If you buy a wireless card for both your laptops then you can merrily connect - remember to enable 128 bit encryption and restrict the access list to each of your cards mac addresses.
Every single network car has a unique Mac address written on it.
Reckon an ADSL modem will set you back about

I always recommend Linksys gear, esp since Cisco have been involved with them. I have setup >20 budget home wireless networks with Linksys kit, and the only problems have been user error

i think once you get it running it's okay - with my sisters boyfriends kit - we could detect other networks from his laptop but not his own - after spending hours trying stuff it suddenly started working.
Linksys - works first time everytime in my book.
I do not work for linksys I add - I work at norwich union !! ...
