TV moan....nothing to do with cars, sorry guys

Post by jap.slapper »

As per title this is just a little moan about something that has really started to 'P' me off recently.... :D

Why is it that every time a new TV series is aired (on Sky especially) and my wife and/or I start to really get into it, some knob in the States decides to pull the plug and cancels the show?

Literally 90% of new shows on reaching the end of season 1 get shit canned with no chance of Season 2 ever getting a look in. The only reason being given by the powers that be appears to be "due to only pulling in 8-12 million viewers per week..." really only 8-12 million???

I don't get it.....in the UK we've had Dead-enders, Emmerdale, Corrie and other OZ tat that's been running for years (and usually just regurgitating the same bollocks story lines over and over again) however when something new and inventive comes along from the US writers it gets shoved in the bin never to be seen again after never really having been given a fair shout.

Granted, not to everyone's taste but Some of which:

-The Event
-Intelligence
-Almost Human
-Believe
-The Secret Circle
-Star Crossed
-Supernatural (Season 9 and 10 has been dropped on Sky) *this really pissed me off as I'd just sat down and watched Season 1-8 on DVD and Sky (loads of time on my hands obviously)

I watched the last episode of Almost Human this evening and at the end I actually said to my wife that 'I bet they've cancelled the show before Season 2' and what do you fookin' know....they have, the bastids'!!!!

anyway, moan over....there's always Albert pissing square to fall back on....or not :puke:

Yup, they ratings watch so hard its unreal and never really give shows the chance to develop.

I really wanted to watch Almost human, but I think it had been shit canned before they even started to show it over here.
Worse still when they get Shit canned between seasons and have not chance to write in any sort of (even a hurried) ending.

Anoys the hell out of me, I didn't start watching Banshee until they said they were making series 2.

I remember watching Flash Forward, which got killed after 1 season with no sort of ending, really bloody annoying, so I went and bought the book.

I'm with you totaly.

I'm with you 110% there mate, it's been happening for years as well. I really like 3 series that were on in/around 2005, Threshold, Surface and Invasion, ALL canned after 1 series.

I've taken to trying to avoid any of these new US series now until at least 3 seasons so am now considering watching Walking Dead and Game of Thrones now they appear to have been established.

Gone are the 'Stargate' days, the SG-1 series ran for 10 season, Stargate Atlantis for 5 more. Stargate Universe (2009) only managed 2 seasons though.

As I have a LOT of time on my hands at the moment I have just watched SG-1, all 10 seasons, 220 episodes!

Gutted about Almost Human and Intelligence, they are both quality shows (and with leading men who are featuring in big budget Hollywood films at the moment.

There was a series that started in America called Alcatraz, produced by J.J. Abrams. Absolutely loved the first series as it had Jorge Garcia, Jonny Coyne, Sam Neill and Leon Rippy. Unfortunately it got canned due to less and less people watching it towards the end.

I've just bought the entire collectors edition box set of the X Files (9 series + 1998 movie) £30 delivered off flea-bay

and the 2008 movie off Amazon for £2 delivered

The kids and I cracked Season One in three days, though we'd had a head start as the first few episodes of Season One had been on Sky recently

My brother has recommended Game of Thrones but I'm not so sure as it sounds like every fooker' gets their noggin' lobbed off eventually, which would just annoy me (though I'm sure they're quite pissed about it as well to be fair....)

I've never been into SG but then again I was never into X Files either so I might give it a go.

Thank God for the wonder of box sets eh....you'd be surprised how many you can get through in 6 months

I'm not looking forward to the inevitable withdrawal symptoms.....all I can say is "epic Sky boxset fest!!"

I've just completed Season 1-4 of The Walking Dead in a shade over two and a half weeks, which I concede could be construed as borderline obsessive :D

Thankfully Season 5 starts on Sky tomorrow (Monday) however the down side is that I will be restricted to just one episode a week, so the 2am marathons are a thing of the past

Anyway....what did I do with my crossbow?

I agree with some but not all. Just watched "The last ship" and so wished they wrapped that up in one season. Its kind of pissed me off they have left it open for a season two. I can`t help but think back to waisted hours watching "lost" season after season only to end up thinking what a load of tosh and that explained nothing!
Totally agree with "Alcatraz", We thought that was great and were miffed when it was canned along with "No ordinary family" (which was canned half way through season two) and Hero`s which had gone off a little but was still quite watchable.
Really quite liking "Forever" even though its quite predictable and have a real guilty pleasure in "Grimm" and "Marvels agents of shield"
Its funny that the "Walking dead should be brought up we have just got hold of seasons two to four as a couple of friends had said it was worth sticking with and had got so good. We had lost interest part way through season two. We have literally just re-watched the first two episodes but think it will take us quite a few weeks to get through it.

I think the episodes of The Walking Dead are too short (approx 40 mins or so) and the viewing experience is definitely better when you string a few together. Box sets is the way to go, for one you don't get those shitty advert breaks every ten minutes.

The Seasons do get better
