London, Birmingham...........it's just people taking the excuse of the original incident on Thursday as ammunition for looting, burning and random violence. Unreal.

Really not sure that there is a simple answer to this one.
Martial law may work in pockets- with some offenders.
Enhanced police presence will deter some, but not the hardcore.
Threats of action and proceedings will only put off the casually involved.

The scale of the thing provides partial anonymity, a kind of camouflage for anyone donning a hooded sweatshirt and scarf as a mask. These people are simply opportunists. This large scale, adhoc trouble presents them with an opportunity to cause the sort of trouble that they want but with the large scale distraction of there being several hundred other people all doing the same thing at different locations across the country.
Other considerations
-Some of the people caught up in this will do so under impulse, i.e. they do not consider the consequences of their actions or the domino effect of victims
-Many of these people have nothing to lose. If your circumstances or outlook are hopeless, what would stop you acting in this way?
-Some career criminals thrive on this. No point trying to look at it from a serial robbers point of view unless you are a serial robber. Our behaviours and accepted norms are just too different to accurately comprehend their understanding.

One thing I do know is that there is no sense in using the same thinking to solve the problem as the one that caused the problem in the first place. The rioting and shooting in Tottenham have little to no link. Civil unrest in the minority needs isolation as this will not fizzle out.........not until millions of pounds worth of damage is done, to both properties and reputations. It's a miracle no-one has been killed in the trouble.

Off for an update.

Technology is fuelling this. Without the instant "look at me" gratification social media and the internet brings, this will run and run..........till people get bored. As people have said, the very people who piss and winge about living in a rough area, having no jobs, no money no prospects etc, are the same people fucking it up for everyone else. Just watch for the vigilantes in the coming weeks!

This is not the first time this type of thing has happened.......Yet again far too much time, effort and money is wasted talking about how to stop these riots without violating their cival rights.........bollocks

What about the innocent individuals trapped in their houses or being forced to leave their homes for fear of their lives, because a few decide that they need new clothes or a 42 inch plasma tv.

Rubber bullets and water canons on the first night, real bullets there after and fuck your cival rights. You know the rules if you dont want to get shot stay you sad ass home.
