5 to 6k
What other requirements? I'm assuming if you have owned rotaries and you consider another one, you don't give a monkeys about MPG.
RX-8 reviews are so mixed; they seem to possess awesome handling but the reliability niggles really put me off.
An S2000 would be on 'my' list as would a fairly decent two wheel drive Cosworth, E36 M3 or even a 350z. I've owned and hammered an E36 and it was quite simply the best car I have had. Admittedly it was a bit 'special' but certainly a cracking option. You can get a nice enough one for 4k, so that would 2k for upgrades. I will stress, these would be my choices and I appreciate that it will almost certainly differ to that of others.

Yeah the newer RX8 doesnt have the same issues. The older one has issues with flooding, starting etc. Apparently doing the coils is a great update. I wouldnt touch the older one for track work.
I agree with Stu, an S2000, an E36 M3, 350z or if you want something good but less power and FWD how about a DC2 Integra ?
I didnt know you had an RX7, was it an FC or FD ?

stu , yes i remember your e36 it was awsome mate , i really would love a m3 but not sure about buying one that old ? any advice on this , maybe buy from a garage with warranty ? i did have a 4 door e36 325 many years ago and really liked that
the 350z was on the list but i think theres alot better 2 seaters around (i didnt know they only had 2 seats till i looked at one ) and if i could have 2 seats i wouldnt be asking for advice because i would be an easy choice the s2000 , ive always loved them
im only really driving about 50 miles a week now so mpg isnt to much of a problem , but i do really need back seats for the rare occasion
cheers guys

If you can pick up an E36 that has been regularly serviced (and you have that documented) you're half way there. Watch for rust in the rear arches, sills and around the boot. The engines are chain driven and pretty tough (immensely tough in road going circumstances) the VANOS can be serviced if necessary but some of the race cars have this locked, so I guess that's up to you. It's like variable valve timing so you probably know enough about that anyway. You can get late E36's all the way up to 99 plates but they may well be out of your budget.
I would buy one tomorrow if I had the cash. I don't think you can beat them for the money, assuming that's the sort of thing that you want. In some ways, as they're getting older, I think they are becoming more desirable again. Just make sure you buy one that looks stock

Good luck.
I deliberately bought a 5 speed 3 litre as I wanted a tougher, simpler car but many people prefer the 3.2 Evo. Having looked at many cars recently, I would say buy on condition only; forget the number plate and mileage as they simply don't tell the full story.

Lets remember that the rx8 that belonged to gerry had 100k miles on it and would have been high miles for its age with any engine in it. That said it was a total pain and i think it was the major start of gerry falling out of love with cars? Personaly i think in the looks department thr rx8 wins hands down inside and out, I just wish mazda had given the option of having a six pot to power it (i nearly said a real engine in it!:D). And the road tax gets more expensive the newer the rx is:(. Also a lot of people forget that subaru`s are very reliable if left as stock. But we all know thats like not chewing a fruit pastel!
.......Ahem, not ALL Subaru's are reliable.russ979 wrote: Also a lot of people forget that subaru`s are very reliable if left as stock. But we all know thats like not chewing a fruit pastel!
