is your computer a hp or compaq? if so there's a 'fn' key, you need to press and hold that, then tap the print screen button. open up ms paint, press and hold ctrl then tap 'V' this should now have pasted the image in paint for you to then save, or mess around with.

if it isn't an hp or compaq, then print screen should work as i don't think any other makes have a 'fn' key :?

No fn key. It's a Medion from Tesco with a generic, wireless keyboard.

Alt PrtScr and then Ctrl V should paste current window into your chosen program.

Ctrl PrtScr and then Ctrl V should paste a complete screenshot into your chosen program.

I use Word or Excel whenever I need to do a print screen,

Hope this helps

Ady.

Just to make sure Gerry, you are then opening Paint or similar and pasting into there??

I'm sure you are, just ruling that out!

If its got vista the screenshot functionality seems to have gone  Get a copy of some art package that will do it, GIMP is probably the best, like photoshop but with a much better price (free) http://gimp-win.sourceforge.net/stable.html

Thanks for all your help guys :thumb:

Collectively you've cracked it. The machine is running Vista but the ctrl+prscrn then ctrl+v catches it and it pastes into paint or Word.

Now I can send the error message to the guy whose software won't work :(

:D
