Photobucket slightly blurs the image which is weird. Wonder if Flickr is better ?

But overall I was pleased with these shots, have loads of others that havent come out great.

They were all taken on a Nikon 55-200 lens which I used all day. Could have done with a bit more reach for some things though but 55 is a good starting point.

Excellent photos 8)

Love the last one.

I've got the D40 with the 18-55 std lense and the 55-200 VR lense.

The VR realy makes a difference close up.

Thanks mate, mines the 55-200 non VR unfortunately. It really makes a difference when reducing the shutter speed. I also have the 18-55 VR lens but that stayed in the bag lol. Just needed that bit extra zoom in some cases.

Thanks Ben, your 70 to 300 would have been great in a lot of cases as the extra 100 zoom would have brought better clarity when zooming in, a lot of mine were at full zoom where the lense isnt the best.

At the moment I think the ones I have are fine but maybe in a few years down the line I would want another lense to replace the 55-200. Some of the Sigmas and Tamrons are good for price over the Nikon ones. Although there is one Sigma thats a massive 200 to 500 magnification and it costs

I finaly got to try my new lens

Post by RPS13 »

I got a new lens a while ago, actually a really old lens inherited. A 500mm Tamron mirror lens form about 1980, plus a doubler and post lens filters. On my Cannon DSLR I think that equalls a 1600mm lens! Finally getting a clear night and the right adaptor I tried it out on the moon last night in my back garden. It is a bugger to hold sill needing a sturdy tripod, mirror lock and a serious delay to let everything settle, but it gave an awsome result as this image is not cropped, The moon is actually hard to fit in the frame!

and here are a couple with a regular lens taken on the same night, a little earlier

I am quite enjoying this photography hobby. It is much less dirty and frustrationg that working on cars.
