Thats all presuming the first owner has been legit with it in the first place as no mot needed for the first 3 years so only service book to go with to check mileage

Good point
I also know a few people that can pretty much destroy cars in a few hundred miles let alone 100k.

Very true Stuart, I know of someone who destroyed an OS Giken clutch in a burgundy R32. He said it was normal use and not racing off from traffic lights but I think we all know the truth
Interesting views though, its interesting what the manufacturers are doing with regards to high mileage warranties if you buy new. Some of them allow enormous mileages like Kia I think it is.

I think i might have brought that up before?:D But i totaly agree.Rob S wrote:Another thing to consider how many big service parts are due @ 70k, and considering how durability gets stretched at the demand of fleet managers, I d rather buy a car that's had it done, and let someone else pay for it. Thank god as buyers we are all different, else we d all be chasing the same cars!

I might have been unlucky, but I know when I sold the car with just a smidge over 100k on it it needed nothing. My point is that the millage might tick the box but all the little bits might be coming to the end of their life.
Personally I would only now buy a car with less than 50k miles or go for one cheaper but with 100k+ miles on. Even more so if it was a diesel. Just my 2p tho

I do alot of miles each year so buying a low mileage car for me is a waist of money. I will always look for an ex-company car at three years old with around 100k and spot on service history, Like Doms says it will have had the big jobs done, Be cheaper to buy and i wont loose so much money when i do finaly sell it on. The other way to look at it is if a car has covered 100k in three years it can`t have been too un-reliable (ie:- spent time off the road being fixed hence not racking up the miles) infact the scoob is the only car i have with less than 100k! The audi (2006 2.7tdi) has 142k (ive done 27k in it since last sept) The golf (1991) has 137k, The mazda (2007 2.0tdi) has 114k, We bought it at three years old having just had the cambelt done at 90k. And the combo van (2006 1.3cdti) has 113k They are all going strong, But the best bit is we saved shit loads because of their miles.

Infact for me the number of owners a car has had is more important than the miles its done. Lets be honest if a cars gives lots of problems its got shot of. Most people keep a car a while if its a good`un?
I love those private ads that say " The reason we are selling it is because i bought this car for the wife and she doesn`t like it" That screams problem car to me. Or the ones that say "im selling this for a friend" Yeah right! Un-disclosed trader more like!
Now stop being a mileage gaylord mr F and buy willow a car.

I was always considering mileage and depreciation. I bought my Seat with 45k on and have now wound another 100k on it. Nothing major has broken and I cannot really see any visual impact this mileage has had on it. Sure its more rattly but there are no real signs of wear from the miles I have put on it.
As the mileage racked up I kept thinking about selling but nothing similar to trade it in for ever seemed to come up for the right money so I have decided to run it into the ground.
So what I am trying to say is that especially with diesels reving lower etc I see no problem with high milers if they are well looked after.

Don't think I have ever had a car with less than 100k on it. Probably because of budgets I suppose. My old volvo v70 diesel I had years ago had 330k miles on it and still drove fine. It's all about how well it's been serviced at the end of the day.
das ist kaput!

Buying a second hand car is a lottery at the end of the day ,you can do your best to reduce the odds of getting a shitter be it high mileage or low mileage but we all get caught occasionally , just buy what you are happy with just don't expect a payday both ways ie if you buy it cheap you will sell it cheap . My Disco is coming up to 140K MY08 , i have known it from new,it has worked hard but it has had whatever it needed so i am happy to run with it . You could knock 50k off of that milage and you would not know the differance.
