Vinyl revival

About 15 years ago i sort of lost interest in music as i didn't like the new stuff and all my old record/cd collection seemed dated . Then fast forward about 11 years later and my youngest son took part in a school musical about Queen , i remember telling him that i had seen them at Knebworth back in 1986 . I was surprised when he said that it was the last gig that they had done with Freddie Mercury in the UK and that he been listening to them for a while . He had also been listening to a lot of bands that i did and i told him about alot of them which i'd seen live . So i said that would take him to see a band , bearing in mind he was 15 and i hadn't been to a gig for years i played safe and took him to see Def Leppard . Since then i,ve been to quite a few more gigs with either him or my daughter and even on my own (well it was Shed Seven) , i also starting buying cd's again although i draw the line at band Tee shirts . Now that iam back going to gigs again i noticed that a lot of the new bands were selling their stuff at the venues on vinyl instead of on cd . Maybe because its cheaper or that they make more from selling it that way . A quick look on the interweb showed that vinyl is making a come back so it was then i thought that i should get my old HiFi from out of the loft . So last weekend it was a trip into the rubbish dump that we call the loft ,and having decided not to get the Christmas tree back down (re the shitty weather) i found and dusted down the HiFi . The good news is it still works although the deck belt drive has stretched so that it only does 45's and i seem to have lost the speaker cables .

Its going to take a while to clean up this lot and i will post up some pictures of the records if anyones interested in 70's music , and does anyone else still play vinyl . Pete

You have some good quality stuff there......Cyrus was mega money back in the day (or seemed like it!) I love music- given the choice of only having one thing out of music, films and books I would go for music all day long..........but my vinyl collection wehn the same way as the hundreds of cassettes that I had i.e. dumped. The biggest shame is that some of that dumped stuff is still the sort of thing I search on Youtube for, so I really should have found space.

Still got all my old vinyl somewhere and still got my deck although the stereo has long since gone. These days just listern to CDs mainly when pottering around the house or working in the garden. Still love going for a drive in the summer and listerning to music.

was rigged up until late last year when we did some building work but nowhere to put it at the mo..............

cant beat VINYL..........

I have a few hiphop/electro LPs and singles. Dad has loads of records though, and a lot of Ska. Can't beat the crackle of a vinyl record.

I think i bought the Cyrus back in 1985 and at the time it was unusual because of the lack of lights and buttons and also its squat shape , the idea being that the money went into the electronics instead of flashy gimmicks . The deck actually cost more than the amp but it was well worth it as its a lovely simple bit of engineering , they still get high marks in reviews . At the time i could have got a lime green one as Rega were doing some limited editions but at the extra cost i decided not to .

I tend to listen to CD's when iam working in the garage as they dont mind a bit of dust plus i can put them on repeat play , when your trying to fit an axle you dont want to be faffing about with CD's . I also listen in the car and i generally have it loud although i turn it down in town because i get terribly British and embarrased about making a noise .

Mines all squeezed into the spare room at the moment but i would like to make a dedicated music room for all the stuff . A guy i worked with years ago had a Linn deck and that was the nuts at the time , i had his old speakers as he had just bought some Linn cans .

I must admit that a bit of background crackle ain't a bad thing and sometimes adds to the listening experience , i find it does particularly with headphones on . Pete

Now that the car is sorted of major jobs and winters coming iam spending a bit more time with the vinyl . I have bought about 15 records of all sorts from LP,s 12 in and 7 in disks , some new and some from Ebay . I also have some new stuff on cassette which came with download codes which means you can download the music to your pc , also some of the vinyl comes with a download code . I have also some records on order so iam waiting for them to arrive in the post , can get addictive as the internet is an easy place to buy stuff .
Anyway having bought the cassettes i didn't have a cassette player to play them on so i turned to good old Ebay for that . Back in 1984 i bought a Techincs cassette player for

Still using the HiFi and i have not got bored with it and chucked it back in the loft . I found a lead that connects my PC to the amp so i can play downloaded music through it which is much better than listening to little PC speakers , these are so much louder.

I also bought some new speaker leads and a new lead that connects the tape deck to the amp .

Here is the Nakamichi tape i bought of ebay for £25 and a real bargain it is to , for a tape deck it sounds pretty good and works perfect.Pete
