Dodge Viper breaks Ring record

7.22 Scary quick full lap

American cars don't handle eh? :) Savage disrespect for the rev limiter, but I guess the lap time was more important than civility.

That's an amazing feat, superb driving also !

Certainly a 2 fingers being stuck up at the rest of the world for saying the American cars dont go round corners !!!!

Checkout the gear level wiggling those at high speeds lol.

Will the rumoured V-Spec version of the new GTR beat it ?

Nice vid - some very interesting discussion about the vid too on that site ..

Once such bit

"Rev limiter is ok...the time it would take him to:

1) Upshift
2) Accelerate more
3) Downshift
4) Decelerate (more)

..would take longer than the time he's on the limiter.

Shifting also upsets the vehicles balance, which costs a longer distance over time at a higher speed, to settle out in order to make your next smooth entry/exit/transition.

Of course, it takes a racer to understand that a rev limiter isnt a limitation necessarily.

Id love to hear about your background...and see a list of areas in that video where you think an incredible _7_ seconds could come off of this video. I mean, if you're so dang good...the Ring is just a flight away. That was a lap well beyond smooth, and well into the boundaries of safe control, it was a phenomenal lap with very little to spare. "

Fook me,

I reckon he must have had an iPod running in his lid with some savage thrash metal band on 11 !!!

Could probably have dipped under 7.20 if he'd have found the gears everytime and not had to lift so much for the understeer in a couple of places - fookin thing needed half an extra turn of lock to get round in a couple of places !!

What an absolute beast of a car though, doesnt sound like its trying that hard, and doesnt bother using top gear !!

Unreal !!

J.
I have issues !!! :ack2:....I used to be average, now I reminisce !!!

that was impressive i like it when he just kept it in the same gear through a section of corners(5th i think) it looked like he was just going for a nice casual drive, amazing driving (well to me it is lol) :-D

Meh, i can do better than that on GT4*

*Note; i was being humerous and in no way was i being serious ;) :D

On a serious note, that was absolutley amazing :o i loved the way it was bouncing off the rev limiter and the gear stick shaking :D if he didn't miss that gear on Galgenkopf then i reckon it could've been a 7:21 :)

Interesting lap. Brutal torque and nuetral handling helped loads :thumb:

Could have gone quicker if it had a proper gearshift and a rev limit of over 2500 rpm.

Interesting lines at times - not ones I have seen a pro driver taking before on a fast lap.

If there is a gain to be had - then I think it is with the gearbox. The shifts take forever! There is probably a big chunk of the claimed 7 seconds. I know the Tremec (Assuming the new viper uses them again?) boxs are supposed to be a bit agricultiral, but my silvia box is like that between 2nd and 3rd, and i consider it kackered. Since I was looking at the Tremec TKO600 for my project due to cost, I may need to have another look for alternatives after seeing that video.

Still, very very impressive times and drive.
