Close Call in the Craners

I posted some more vids on Youtube, this one in particular is worth watching for a bit of an arse-cleanching moment. Coming down through the Craners I notice mid-corner that the slick shod Cupra has slowed right down and virtually parked himself on the racing line. I'm 110% committed through there and only just manage to ease the car over to the left.

It's a small section of 2 more vids I posted, essentially these are highlights from the free practice and quali sessions, some spins and close action in both.

Part 2

Scary. The Craners are ballsy enough without the addition of a (barely) mobile chicane.

Yes, even the slightest lift sees the back-end step out there. You'll see by the reaction of the car on that spin video that, being quite soft and heavilly rear weight biased these MR2s have a a horrible snap back.

Just watched the spin video !!
You bad man !!!
What are you like !!! Nice to see even the pro's make schoolboy errors of judgement. They guy you were following wasnt particularly "on it" ne misses all the apexes. broke early at the end of the start finish straight, was watching the Radicals and hence why he shut the door on your - has to be said truly balsy - overtaking manouvre !!! Top bit of off roading though fella, you can borrow my Landie anytime !!! I guess thats why same make/spec racing is so close, but if you have to make moves on people in Craners to get the job done then Im glad Im not the one doing it !!!!

James,
LOL
I chuckle every time I watch it. In hindsight, once the outside (easy) move had been spoilt I should have bided my time and probably gone the inside line at McLeans like he did back to him later in race. However I was effectively leading the MR2 battle at that stage as the 2 guys that qualified similar to me were behind so I was keen to not let the gap dwindle. The car I passed was about 1.5secs slower in quali so started 15 secs ahead (as it was a pursuit handicap race).
From the data I could tell I lost 8 secs and, had I not lost 8 secs and everything else being the same I would have won the (MR2) race .. by 0.25 secs ... and likely had a great battle doing it
Never mind :P should make for interesting TV, the series is going out on Motors TV from 19/08 (Silverstone), Donington airs from 26/08.
