That looked nasty. I hope he is ok, but knowing the way the cars are built nowadays he is probably fine.

NUERBURGRING, Germany (Reuters) - Formula One championship leader Lewis Hamilton is fit to race in Sunday's European Grand Prix, his McLaren team said on Saturday.

"There is at this moment in time absolutely no medical reason that he can't race," team boss Ron Dennis told reporters after the 22-year-old Briton returned to the paddock from hospital after a heavy crash in qualifying.

Hamilton must, however, have a final check by the International Automobile Federation's doctor on Sunday morning before being formally cleared to race

Good to hear he seems ok and fit to race, wonder what caused that O/S/F to fail like that??
very hard hit though and goes to show how safe these cars are built these days. Hope he makes it to the grid tomorrow.

Martin Brundle is so clued up he doesn't miss a thing. Total contrast to the other commentator, tosser who firstly proclaims a major mistake by Hamlton, then a tyre failure as the cause :jerk:

Bloody miracle how those guys walk away from high speed accidents, unlike a couple of decades ago where it would have resulted in another loss to the sport.

Yup i noticed the commentator jumping the gun and saying it was lewis making a mistake  I've just seen the news and they state it was an incorrectly fitted wheel...........I didnt think you could mount one of them incorrectly. From the video it looks more like the wheel failed where it fits onto the hub assembly. Unless of course it just wasn't tightend enough...........maybe hes got Nigel Mansells old pit crew working on the car

At the time, McLaren were saying it was a wheel gun problem, not tightening the nut enough.

How about the comment of today?

"It's been a black weekend for Lewis Hamilton"

Now there' a master of observation at work.
