Thats one hell of a photographic diary.

However nice it is when it's finished though, it does beg the question of why? All that trouble to basically start from scratch anyway. Was it a famous rally car that had been left to die?

That was amazing, I kept wondering why to start with - I thought it was some american drag car to start with .... but what a job when it was finished, lovely.

Stolen from Wiki:

"In September 1982, the first Celica turbo was launched in Japan. The GT-T had a 1.8 liter 3T-GTE engine. To meet the FISA regulation for Group B Rally Car to compete in the World Rally Championship (WRC), 200 units Celica GT-TS were built. These were the basic car for Group B Celica Twincam Turbo (TA64) which built and rallied by Toyota Team Europe (TTE)."

"Minor changes were given in late 1983 for the 1984 model year and distinguished by the redesigned front end, with fully-closed retractable headlights. Side vents, Hood, grille, tail lights, and bumpers were also new. The GT-R and GT-TR (turbo) were added to the Japanese lineup."

An amazing project and a bit of an eye opener in terms of quality. Certainly preferred the short wheel base Audi next to it.

Dave Bailey will be in his own private nirvana when he sees this link. You never know, it may encourage him to finish his ;)

Based on the plate I guess the poor car sat around saudi arabia rotting away.

Its a group B rally car - so its a bit like whether its worth restoring an RS200 or Maxi 5.

However given the happy looking Juha, and the fact his name is on the car there may well be alink !!! This could even be the car he won his first world rally in !!!

That attention to detail is breathtaking. It must be fabulous to work on something like that and see the finished fruits of your labour.

Worlds most expensive Celica?

Fair play, that answers my question :D

It all makes sense then. If it was just any old Celica im not sure I would understand the reasons but given the circumstances, it would seem to be toil of passion and full respect given for the amount of work and attention to detail.

Good on em. :)
