just searching for MK1 footage and came across this session at cadwell.

the guy is a bit hung up on slower/novice/caterham drivers

i cant understand his rage?

why doesn't he be the bigger man and pull in himself and wait for a clearer piece of track?

why is he timing sectors? isn't that deemed racing?

people forget bits in briefings due to excitement etc

your opinions on the MR2's driver and the caterhams?

Yep - I get tad upset if people dont move over where safe to do so or behave erratically on track which could be dangerous if mis-interpretted. This happened on several laps at the Ring this week where we could have easily collected motorcycles, BMW and a couple of Morgan's on corners though either not realising we were there or though not understanding that we wanted to get past. Just treat the rest of the lap as learning to get those bits as smooth/fast as possible.

He might have thought about tuition himself though as some of his lines there were well off. He should look to get his lines right before building speed: turned into Barn too early, did not pull it tight into Coppice (yes it would be flat in his) and he could have grabbed more kerb at gooseneck as well as being a bit smoother all round.

On the subject of timing, I time my laps JJ but only in an effort to see the effect of learning and to see why a certain line etc was better in the point of view of time/speed. I was doing 1min 45 round there, which isnt that special IMO.

If he came into the pits there, there seemed to be a plethora of caterhams there so no gtee that he would ever really get a clear lap - he should just chill a bit and enjoy the laps, not getting too hung up on chasing a time - thats when it goes pear shaped.

I agree with you Jamie, why didnt he just pull in and go out later ?

The marshalls looked like they werent on the ball either which didnt help.

Think the MR2 driver should have cooled down, pulled in and gone to see a marshall about the driver. After all when driving out on a track for the first time you are having to watch the circuit, the speeds, the gear you are in plus your mirrors so it is quite a lot to get to grips with. I am guessing Caterham driver thought that he was quicker as he flew away from him on the straights.

Think the Caterham driver should have let him pass and it was bad he didnt but also think the MR2 driver shouldnt have got so frustrated and angry !!

We had this happen on the Ring when I was out with Duncan and a bike wouldnt move even with Dunc about a foot away from the rear tyre !! Surely he could hear the Impreza ?!!? But no he wasnt looking at all, even a stripped out BM racer almost took him out.

The guy is an idiot. We all get held up behind slower cars, it's all just part of going on a trackday. If he wants a clear track then he should hire one out for testing, or buy a faster car to make it easier to pass.
