Mini hounding Impreza. Mod saloon race

Post by Scoop »

Hi,

Thought you'd get a buzz out of this.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pqK4XF7qOiM

I assisted in building this car the last couple of months. It was built from a brand new shell and is all singing all dancing as far as mini's go. Bill had a big accident at Brands a couple of months back and broke some ribs. While he has been mending himself we prepared a new car although my part to play was minimal as I only assisted when I could on days off work etc.

First event out Bill finished 3rd overall and 1st in class beaten only by Rod Birley's Ford Escort WRC and Stratton Mackay's Subaru Impreza WRX.

Second race of the day he came 2nd overall beating the Impreza and again, first in class. A new lap record for the class was also set of 45.3 seconds around Lydden Hill. That's quick for a saloon car! Especially when its only 1480cc!

To say I was pleased by the performance of the car and seeing Bill get the most out of it is an understatement.

Enjoy!

Ah Bill Richards Racing  He's very big in the mini scene isn't he, and extracting 1480 from a 1275 block isn't at all easy! (wasn't it a 1425 before?)

Great video, thanks for sharing reall has brought back memories :)

Yeah. He doesn't compete in the mini championships like Miglias, Sevens or Mighty Minis instead preferring giant slaying in mod saloons.

That car has been all sorts. It was a 1425 moons ago when it was a round front mini then it became a 1460 8 port with motorbike carbs as an experiment before becoming a clubman with twin webers. Now it's a 1480 KAD fuel injected 16v with 200 BHP.

EDIT: I forget it has been reshelled a number of times but I still refer to it as 'that car'. A bit like Triggers broom!
