Thanks benny it took three years to get this far and hundreds on hours and much money i am glad you spent the time reading through it thanks very much I do hope it does help the volvo world get a bit more attention lol

Thought I would update my thread slightly as I managed to track down the pictures of the process the block went through when the new style liners were fitted after I ended up with a neat spilt liner after getting the engine to 591hp and 524ftlbs of torque on race fuel @ 2.3 bar :

So after the block was inspected we decided that a whole new liner of much thicker metal would be a much better idea and also make sure they are touching each other as the standard Volvo block has a small 1mm gap between each cylinder which does not help with the top of the liner becoming trumpet shaped at the hot end (the top)

The first step was to machine out the old liners which were cast into the block when it was made ;

Here you can see the section where the liners will touch each other to give them more strength

So then onto the fitting which was started off by fitting cylinder liner 1-3-5

Wow!! you really are doing things properly :D.

Keep the pics coming it is fascinating to see this type of build progress and to see just how much work goes into it.
I may be getting older but I REFUSE to grow up :D

Fantastic read, great car! i think i've seen it before around the volvo forums etc anyway, but never read as much about it, love 'em!
