Talking specifically about this R32, does anyone have any thoughts as to why they would use a 2.7 for drag and a 3.0 for track stuff?

Possibly more mid range torque?
I did read somewhere that this car was built with all off the shelf parts and not one item on it was cutom made.

Looking at the air intake I would say that's wrong. Custom rear mounted rad too so I would slap your informant in the gills :D
