Powernights, Craners Spin and Lots of Action

Post by Maxx »

This is my edited Race 1 video, actually quite tough to get it down to under 10mins for Youtube as there was a lot of action in this .. including my spin down the Craners, over the grass, backward through the gravel and back onto track facing the right way .. it seemed so much slower in rea life! (see later)

Also there are a number of very close moments with the other quicker cars, 3 wide into Redgate, 3 wide and a close shave with a Lotus into Coppice and 3 wide down the straight.

I did this highlights list :

1:30 redgate, great save by 1 (Patrick)
1:45 old hp, I make a feint to the inside, probably puts Patrick off who runs wide.
2:00 craners, radicals, quick avoidance of 6 (Clive) and THE spin.
3:15 redgate, caterham up the inside, I follow past Ginetta
4:40 mcleans, I back out on a move up the inside on 158, followed by 3-wide into Coppice, Whew!
5:35 redgate, back out of a move inside on 158 (Stephen) but get squeezed out by rapid Talbot & Caterham, 158 runs wide and I can squeeze through.
6:15 mcleans, catch and pass 6 on inside, tyres gettin really hot now.
6:55 goddards, have to swerve to avoid 44 (Woody), almost collect a rapid Subaru WRC
7:40 mcleans/coppice, major radical assault, plus very near miss with Lotus
8:40 goddards, Lotus spins on last lap.

If you want to see the spin straight off it's here : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GV7i2sevq8w

The race is a mixed Sports and Saloon race, I'm in an MR2 Challenge Car (MK2) on road tyres and soft springs, chasing and catching a similar car as we approach the Craner Curves at Donington. A move to the outside is precluded by 2 super quick, slick shod Radicals so switch to the inside. Looks like I'm going to get squeezed at the apex so back out but unable to slow without lifting, then this equation takes over Craners + Lift = Beach Holiday.

I am trying to get the car backward for the gravel as was afraid that a side one hit might lead to a role, just about managed it mid gravel trap then some manic steering work to get it back on track facing the right way and not get collected.

Remind me not to try that line when I'm there next. Nice recovery though. all things considered. I bet the difference in speed between the Radicals and your little MR2 are 'interesting'

Cosworth Engine + Slick Tyres, good move from him I thought.

Incidentally, the Blue one I was chasing is the same Class of car as mine but as there are no tyre regs for this race he ran on Trackday semi-slicks A048s I think.
