These in XP8 format get raved about on the MLR. So I called Ian at Carbotech to ask him afew questions as I wasn't sure what to do about new pads, having Performance Friction .11's on and previously run Pagid Blues and DS2500 on the old Impreza.

After a bit more thought and a few more questions to iamn, which he gladly replyed to I decided with a bit of Sprinters discount if I sport a couple of stickers to go for them to give them a try.

After fitting them late this afternoon I went out to bed them in, and after a few light brakes and then a couple more heavier braking stops the bite in these is very impressive, way way more feel and retaradion compared to the Performance Frictions. Due to it being wety I didn't get to use them fully but I have a feeling these are going to be impressive!

Thumbs up so far, I'll report back after the first Sprint

Daniel, yes, don't bother with the EBC's over these!!

Daniel - EBC are toy pads in comparison to brands like Performance Friction, Pagid and Carbotech.
Blacky - Where do the PF .11 pads fall into their range? I

Tommy, the PF.11 pads are the Z rated pads. I thought they were okay, a bit wooden maybe and needed lots of pedal force to scrub the speed off. But after trying these, there is a world of difference.

On the plus side of the PF's they wore well and when i did go for a trackday to learn the tracks for Sprints they did work well beyond there temp range with any judder etc event hough they were close to being on fire!

Whether the XP8's will do the same I'm not sure. But I bought them for Sprinting so if they are good at anything else it'll be a bonus. What I can expect is increased disc wear but I am just using Pattern OEM spec discs that I've found are fine and they aren't silly cash so I can replace them without having to rob a bank!!

I can only assume the Carbotech are similar performance and cost as the PF race compound pads? If so, it will be interesting to hear how they treat your discs with road driving.

The PF race pads I have used provide unbeatable stopping power and never fade. They’re also kind to discs – on track only! When I used them for road work they ate the discs at an incredible rate. I’ve since found out this is because when they are not up to temp they are super hard and therefore eat the discs. Also, the dust they produce, when not up to temp, is very damaging to paintwork. I had to T cut both sides of the track car in the early days (only 2 years ago lol)when I didn’t know what I was doing (not braking hard enough and getting the temp into the pads).

Hey just thought I would mention a bit about Carbotech Pads. They are not made out of Carbon and Iron like many performance pads. As you might know Carbon and Iron mixed produces Carbide used to make cutting tools which is why so many performance pads eat disks.
