MK2 Golf 3 door 8v

Preferably black
Preferably G60 arched
Preferably Black MO 5 spokes in et12 :)

Joking aside, I would like the good people of this club to keep an eye out for me for a cheap runabout. The reasoning on an 8v is that I know that they can do 45-50mpg when driven sensibly, and I know that they can take unprecedented levels of 'use' when required. I can't stomach spending thousands on something newer when principally I think most modern cars look worse than a nice MK2 with decent wheels, most modern cars are heavier (hence the MK2's excellent economy) and something simple like a MK2 will be easy enough for me to spanner on as and when......

So, please keep your eyes out for me. I regularly trawl the usual sites and have email alerts on things like Google for MK2 8v but I would always be grateful for help

(Trev, if you have one in your shed, please let me know  )

I should add that when I say that the MK2 is better looking than most 'modern cars' I simply mean those at a similar price point. If someone can find me an S15 that sips fuel @ similar mpg for similar money, I'm in

I have asked the owner for further info Trev. The manifold is cracked, the car ain't running right and the shell has chips and surface rust. Whilst none of these puts me off on their own, I would feel happier when I know a lot more about what has been done (clutch/belts/matrix etc)

Already had a white 8v (which was tidier than that or at least looked it) and we all know how that rusted over the three years it was around the club. It needs the plastic arches refitted to in my opinion. We'll see. Maybe :)

Deffo needs to be an 8v though, or I may as well but pretty much anything that does circa 35mpg and broaden my field of choice. It looks like I'll be busy over the next few months though with projects/work in Norwich, Snetterton and Swaffham so I may well be doing a few miles.

A kind of working shortlist :)

A nice looking car with decent spec for what it is, modern enough and the potential to be used in this if needs be

Same for this one but it's more local and cheaper (ignore the advert price)

Just because...........the fella wants

The MR is criminally cheap, especially being a rev 3 regardless of the cat 'c' write off. That, half stripped with a nice bucket seat and a T-Bar delete panel in white = lovely.

Update
The local one wasn't suitable and the one in Essex on Pistonheads is (hopefully) being viewed this week. The owner seems very decent so we shall see what happens.

Am I that transparent :)

In fairness Gareth, I wouldn't go all of that way if it wasn't quite likely and there is another in Chelmsford that I can view on the way back, if the first deal doesn't work out.

I will make sure that I keep 'real' though.....I've even bought a return train ticket :)
