Right me and Mr Wilson had fun today trying to replace what appeared to be a broken driveshaft in my Golf. Anyway after a while we came to realise the reconed driveshaft I purchased would not line up well and then to our horror we discovered the gearbox had dropped. After taking out the air filter we found that the gearbox was held on by nothing except the driveshaft we had just taken out no wonder it was knackered.

Anyway I now need to get hold of a replacement gearbox mount for both the inner wing and the gearbox itself plus the two nuts that hold it together., the car is an S plate Mk4 Gti. Anyone got any suggestions other than VW where I might be able to get the items for a good price. To be honest I don't intend to keep the golf for more than 6 months so not fussed if it is from a scrappy.

In the end I tried a few volks parts specialist including AVS in Swaffham (didn't know they existed). Anyway the mount on the gearbox is called a console and is a 'specialist' part so had to get it all from VW. Total cost

What about 'French, German and Swedish auto garage', its on Jupiter Road in Norwich.

Yes i was going to say GSF, but perhaps it is a main dealer part only.
