Hi Folks!
Ive been set the task of finding a nice scoob for my father-in-law .A duel purpose car that he can drive daily, but also take to the track and have some fun! (he`s been my co-driver for years- but after a ploppy pants moment last year, he`d rather have his own car :) ) He is obviously mature in years- so no chav chariots! (we`ve traweled flee bay, and clocked some obviouse muts!)
His absolute v-max budget is 3.5k, something well under that would be nice, to leave some money in the kitty for track days :-D. Now he`s preference would be a wagon (for practicality) but not vital.
A pumping sound system is not required, uprated brakes, suspension and engine would be nice, but then again a well priced totaly standard car would be fine, so he can build his own track car ( seems totaly standard is much in demand)
Age also is not important, obviouly lower the miles the better!
Now so help here please! We can`t decide between a uk car or import. If uk car would be 99 on so having abs and the four pot brakes, also he could run it on normal fuel when not in track mode :) . But if he went for an import he would have more oomph out of the box? and it would have spent its early life on un-salted roads? (my friends 2000my uk scoob is being quite savaged by the tin worm!)

He`s entrusted me with the job of finding one for him( the fool :o ) He seems to think by me owning one, i might know what to look for :? Also as its his money, the last thing i want to do is land him with a pup!
So any help or advice would be greatly appriciated :?:
Cheers
russ

If you can get one with some suitable mods already done then I'd go for that option.

I've spent around 2.5k on mine this year already  and after looking at the Silver one you posted on earlier, I could have bought that for not much more and ended up with 2 cars instead of 1... :o (and the spec looks better than mine is at the moment :( )

Yep Ady!
I could`nt agree more! If i added up what ive spent on mine, it`d scare me! Fortunatly its been done over several years.
The problem is its not my money being spent on the new car. I`m sure most people can imagine the grief i`d get if i bought him a mut,( dont upset family! :o ) beside`s i do actualy quite like the guy! :)

OOOPPS! just realised how that could be mis-read!
The silver scoob i posted on earlier does look spot on, just the thing he`s looking for! We just want to know if its still available?

If you can find a straight newage WRX wagon for that sort of money that hasn't been messed around with it will be easier/cheaper to tune than a classic that more than likely has been fiddled with. The newage scooby has a Denso ECU and some of us on here are very intimate with them ;)

Then if you happen to come across a decent STi lump like i did you can transplant it along with the wiring loom, ECU and a few other bits for a very quick wagon.

However, there's no reason why you can get a standard WRX and tune it for 270-280bhp with not a lot of money and few mods.
