A bloke in Ely does a very good job of overhauling them if that's any help...

May well be of use.

I will whizz (loose terminology for sweating over it all day) it off tomorrow and see if it is fekked or just dodgy connections.

Car starts fine when bumped but just get the dreaded click on turning the key.

Battery condition? Poor terminals?

Drive dog jammed in ring gear. Try giving it a clonk with a bit of wood and club hammer. Put it in gear and rock it back and forth.
Handle every stressful situation like a dog. If you can't eat it or hump it, piss on it and walk away!

Tried the whacking with a hammer technique and the rocky back and forthy technique :D - no worky
It bumpstarts so isnt jammed on the flywheel
Battery is fully charged
Terminals look a bit iffy on the starter itself so will try these first before taking it off in case i dont need to do that.

Bloody cars

In which case the solenoid in the starter is completely knackered if a knock with a hammer doesn't budge it or the small + lead that connects onto the back of the solenoid has popped off due to vibration. :D
Buggers cancelled my op just a couple of days before it was due. Inconsiderate barstewards!!

Right - found the issue....

The braided earth strap from the solenoid to the starter motor body is corroded and broken.

Any ideas on a solution ?

Can you join these?

Solder it together... Try earthing it with a screw drive across the two points to check thats the fault.
