WTD: Nice car for no more than

Well the Clio is for sale by a local trader as I've had nothing but scammers on Autotrader and a few sniffs on Pistonheads.

I've tried two days of public transport and it's driving me nuts (not literally) therefore I'm looking for a car that comes in around 2k which ticks all the boxes so no less than 35 MPG on a combined run, around 10secs or less to 60 has 5 seats can be 3 or 5 door, fairly reliable not stonking mileage.

This seems to add up to VW Golf to me and I've seen a few on Ebay but thought I'd posse the question to members as I know a few golf lovers are on here however I'm open to alternative suggestions.

Any thoughts, offers and suggestions gladly received.
