RE: Exhaust Adapter......

I need a SS exhaust adapter that will allow me to bolt together my new Kakumei 3" center pipe to my 2 5/8 (std Subaru Size) TSL back box. The flange is bigger on the 3" pipe and holes further apart.
The quick fix is to buy a new backbox with a 3" pipe and bigger flange but that will be lots of dosh and i just don't have those sorts of funds available just now and to be honest i really like the sound of my backbox so i would be loathed to have to sell it.
Any thoughts on this one please??

can you just drill out the bolt holes to make them oval to give you more room for the bolts?
i have the standard size and a 3" exhaust donut if needed

What he said lol.
More or less anyway.
As an adapter you need a flange with the outside profile of a 3" flange and the inside profile of a 2 5/8" flange with the bolt holes ovalled. You cannot just put a 3" flange with the holes ovalled in as an adapter as there will not be enough sealing area on either side to get a decent seal.
You could weld a 3" flange to the existing 2 5/8" flange on the backbox and then bolt to the centre pipe. You may have to remove the ears on the backbox flange as they may foul the bolt holes of the 3" flange.
Hope this helps.
Oh. by the way i have 3" flanges in stock lol. What are the hole centres on the flange on the centre pipe?

Hi all, Thanks for the replies :thumb:
I have decided to take the backbox to a local custom exhaust manufacturer to have the old flange taken off the backbox and have a new flange welded on that exactly matches the Kakumei flange, only with a smaller hole
I'll take both bits in so they can match both flanges up properly. Best way forward i think although i am surprised i couldn't find an adapter anywhere that would do the job.
Maybe there's a hole in the market for this somewhere :-k and not just in my exhaust

Yes,
Your local Powerflow type place should be able to sort you out.
I think you are better off getting them to weld the new flange to the old one like i said mate. The box will sit a little further back (thickness of the new flange) but is should all line up well.

I will get them to take the old flange completely off after having marked it first of course, and weld a brand new one on. I don't see the point of welding one flange on top of another.

why not just use your old centre section?

Because it's rusted to buggery and it's in a right state so i thought better get rid of it. Besides, i want a nice big SS 3incher!! Wouldn't you rather have 3" than 2 5/8"?

yes I would but I wouldnt strangle that nice free flowing centre bit with a smaller backbox.
