Wanted: Cheap Laptop

As some of you may know, I'm moving to France for 5 months at the start of December to work at a ski resort. I've got an external hard drive with tons of TV stuff to watch and all my music so what I'm on the outlook for is a cheap laptop that I can use while I'm out there solely for video/music playback. Disk space isn't really an issue as everything is on the external HD and I'm not worried about Wi-Fi as there's internet PC's in the hotel that I can use to check up on you all
So....what have you got?
Cheers in advance

I have a couple of dell laptops coming available at work (well they have been say on a shelf for a few weeks to be honest). I should have time to sort them out for the end of the week. About 3yr old, but may not have the best batteries. If you have not sorted one out by weekend I will let you know the specs.

Once Rolty is sorted, my 90+ yo mother says she's been thinking about getting a laptop and broadband
She was looking at one in Tescos but obviously hasn't a clue what she's looking at. As she only wants something to surf the net with and email (no shoot 'em up or GTA type games, a cheap, second hand unit would probably do fine.
So if anyone has anything suitable, I'd be very interested.
Ta.

I am in the same boat as Gerry's mother and am looking for a cheap laptop for the same reasons if anyone has anything suitable?
I am not sure what i need to hook it up to my home computer to surf on the net though? Wireless or a long cable??
