Anyone have a 2002 WRX Steering rack for sale? DESPERATE!!!

Post by ScoobieWRX »

Hi all,

Does anyone have a 2002 WRX Steering rack for sale or kicking about anywhere that you don't want?? Mine has sprung a big leak. Steering oil is coming out of the input shaft dust cover when under pressure!!

I'm in Northampton.

Many thanks in advance

Hi Duncan,

Not to worry. Got the leaks sorted by way of a repair kit, seals and bearings for the steering gearbox from my local Subaru dealer. Trying to track a used rack down for a 2002 WRX was a nightmare and clearly fruitless. All working fine now so job done.

Tell you what though, i cannot believe the polava i had to go through just to get the rack out. I don't exactly have full subaru workshop tools in my cramped garage and doing stuff like dropping the subframce and exhaust removal coupled with all the usual stuff involved was bloody hard work and more complicated than it should be, just to get a rack out.

i hope i don't ever have to do it again, unless i have a hydraulic lift and better garage facilities. I enjoy learning to do as much as possible by myself but i have to draw the line somewhere purely through lack of facilities.

Thanks for asking :thumb:

P.S. Steering wheel removal was neccessary and after reinstallment not only does my horn now not work but my Airbag light is on. I've checked the installation and everything seems ok. I think it needs a reset. Do you know of any ways to reset the Airbag light without dealer intervention or someone that can do it?? Cheers.
