OK with the new drift toy me and Nik have got it is going to need its diff welded at some point.
I would prefer to not take it off the car and just pop the cover off so it would be best if you was local to the workshop at attleborough.
Next point is that i dont have a welder so would also need to have to bring own equipment.
Obviously beer tokens supplied or a favour would be owed!
Can anyone help?

Ian,
A fairly powerful welder is required to weld a diff due to the hardness and mass of metal involved. Even more so with it all in situ due to the heat soak effect of all the other metal around. Also you need to be very careful of heat being transfered to diff bearing and seals.
I recommend you take the diff out and get it welded by a specialist with a HD welding plant mate.

Don't know what welding process you'd use but if it's MIG or MMA (stick) you've got the problem of spatter and slag that'll get into the bearings, crown wheel & pinion etc.

OK it looks like i will have to take it out the car then to get it done properly.
Thanks for all the advise, how do you stop the splatter in the housing from forming?

I can weld diffs if anyone wants, done one on my s13 which saw 10+ practice days, rounds of eurodrift etc.
also welded the one on my mr2, yet to be properly tested apart from a few launches in my backyard, although i'd imagine the gearbox would implode first lol
I'm a qualified and time served welder, i arc weld my diffs and before welding place a plate cut to size over the hole in the centre of the gears so as not to mess up the splines where the stub axles go in.
You would need to remove the diff from the car if you want me to do it as i do it on our big bad 3 phase welded at work.

do S13' diffs fit the s12 ?
if so then I've got a spare s13 open diff sitting here, you can have it get that welded then swap them over if you wanted.
cheers
