GPS advice

My parents are looking at getting a GPS system, but not sat nav like TomTom, mor elike the Garmin GPS stuff I've seen.

Does anyone have any experience/opinions on these? Ot'll also need to be able to be used abroad, I'm not sure if that makes any difference?

I had a 350 nuvi Until last night it was great highly recommend a garmin
